Washed Up Car-go
(Brighton)
First site visit. I drove down to Brighton in the black Citroen C3 I intended to use for 'Washed Up Car-go' . You can just see it parked on the street.

In 2020 I was commissioned to make a 'Washed Up Car-go' for Brighton festival. Sadly it never happened. It was what I was working on when the Covid 19 pandemic hit and the festival was cancelled. Having made a couple of site visits I had started work on different elements for the film. I knew it was going to be fast pace as this had worked in Hastings. For this end I had started by coming up with as many little vignettes as I could that basically showed things washing up on Brighton beach that could be segued together. Working with an environmental theme I took a few very short film clips or 'sketches' as I worked through the ideas. This page consists of a few of the more finished ones.
The location for the car was a little way from the sea front and this became an interesting challenge to somehow bring the sea closer. This led to the biblical reference of Noah’s ark. The road that the car was to be positioned on was distinctive in that it had a row of large residential tower blocks. I set about photographing them and turning them into models that I could surround with flood water. |
