Around the edge of the gallery space I set out a scalextrix track and on it I had a lorry that drove around the wall. It also had another painting on the back that had a smaller toy lorry with a speaker on the back of that. Film: Ron Suffield

On the front of the lorry there was a pretend speaker that came from the model of a tannoy system also from Scalextrix. The speaker on the back was the one that actually worked and picked up a tape recording from the track. It was intended to be like an announcement that you used to get during the run up to a political election. Instead of saying "vote...." it says "Buy my painting...Buy my painting"!.
'The event within an event'. On the back of the toy truck is a smaller stationary toy truck in the context of some kind of outdoor event. like a village fete. On the back of this truck there is a speaker. This is where the sound actually comes from.

In 'Studio 1:1' , the gallery was on two levels. In the main gallery the track went along the floor but in order to main the same level it was attached half way up the wall in the lower space. Photo:Jo Newman

In the foreground is the yellow gantry that holds the sensors. It also carries the mains electricity over the track from the plug socket. The other toy trucks carry the other components parked up in the corner like generator trucks at a travelling fairground. The red truck on the shelf at the back carries the transformer; The green trailer in the corner has the amplfier; the blue low trailer has the cassette tape player; the white truck nearest the gantry has a 13 amp. junction box on it with two chargers plugged into it.
