​I spent a week in the Asda car park next to Dunstable library with an extra long Selfie stick (so I could get the roof and bonnet of each car).
The white square was so we could draw the race number on afterwards.
​Members of the public were invited to help make their racing car from photographs of them in their own domestic runabout. The cut out and folded paper body was fixed to a Scalextrix car chassis.
​At the end of the week we had 25 cars.

​Two weeks later the public were invited back to race their cars around a giant Scalextrix track built around the entire top floor of the library.
​The track stuck to the edge of the library as much as possible enabling the library to function as normal during the installation. In this image it disappears behind the bank of public computers.

Around the fire extinguisher and under the library book shelves. I also built 2 wheelchair friendly bridges over the track from discarded library shelving and books.    
As the track was so big the cars were out of view from the driver for most of the time. Consequently each car pulled a caravan with a CCTV camera attached. Speed was controlled via a conventional Scalextrix controller whilst looking at the live feed from the camera on a computer screen.
