My favorite use of sound so far. 

The project developed  from an early sketch I made of a 'shouting library book'. Consequently the slot car chassis' all had an mp3 player and speaker installed in them. 'Selfie Slot car Racing' is an ongoing experiemntal project that develops each time it is installed. The first time; at Dunstable library, the contestants read a passage from their favorite book and this was recorded and played from the car as it raced. This wasn't entirely successful so I have tried various other content including music.  To date the sound capability of 'S.S.C.R.' is still a function without a completely satisfactory purpose.      

(1 min. 50 secs.) The initial idea of the  'shouting book' with a recording of a frustrated librarian advertising the library via books placed randomly around the the town.  

(2 mins. 58 secs.)  ​An early idea was to record the reading of books and to paint the cars in the design of the book cover. The specialist skills involved negated the 'hands on' involvement of the public which was a required factor in the brief.

(18 secs..)  ​Another experiment was an attempt to use recorded road-rage as a substitute for engine noise. I was looking for a kind of 'engine roar' but instead it came out as 'driver's pet hates'

( 57 secs.) Music test 'TCR' -'Sleaford Mods'. Unusual to find a cool song about slot car racing.

(16 secs.) Screaming slot cars recorded through the 'Caravan Cam'. The figure holding the 'slow' sign is Nigel Farage.
