During the R and D residency at CTM I experimented with old car horns and the way in which they amplify sound similar to a gramophone horn. The plan was to use this technique to deliver the poems- one horn for each. Made from old toy cars and car horns I would elaborate on this combination of real and pretend car components and make the model vehicles a hi-bred of both. In the sketch example I have made, the main chassis is made from part of an old foot pump.
Contained in the car horn is actually an Mp3 player that delivers the poem. Multiple tracks and vehicles would be built in tiers inside the shell of an existing vending machine. Each would have its own switch that would operate a series of relays that not only starts the model but also isolates all the other vehicles so that only one works at a time. I was going to use only car relays and other components compatible with a cars electrical circuit. Just this one poem sketch was quite complicated and a little temperamental. The finished work would have probably been a nightmare to get right. |
